LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Sugar Puddin’s Ice Cream Café is WLAF’s business of the week.
Sugar Puddin’s is now offering baked goods and has its chicken salad sandwiches back by popular demand. Holiday orders are welcome. Owned and operated by Christie Johansen, the business opened in July 2020. It serves up a variety of treats including tons of ice cream flavors, home baked goods and chicken salad for lunch.
Johansen began making baked goods about two months ago. Wanting to offer something different, Johansen began researching for the perfect icings for her cakes and cupcakes. She offers a variety of homemade icings on her cakes such as a buttery Ermine, a delicious, but not too sweet Russian buttercream and she can also do a Swiss Meringue buttercream as well. She makes custom cakes and cupcakes for all occasions, as well as cheesecake cupcakes and buttercream cake pizzas.
Sugar Puddin’s offers two varieties of patterned pumpkin rolls, including a traditional cream cheese icing pumpkin roll, as well as a toffee roasted pecan pumpkin roll.
The California chicken salad is back by popular demand and is available in large and small orders for events, as well as by the sandwich. It comes served on a jumbo croissant. Johansen is adding a second chicken salad called the Cape Cod which will feature cranberries and pecans.
The shop was a long time dream for Johansen, who started the business with her husband Glenn. “My husband calls me Sugar Puddin’, which is how we came up with the name,” Johansen said.
Sugar Puddin’s is still serving up it’s unique ice creams crafted from premium hard ice cream and your favorite ingredients to create a customized soft serve. Each base starts from vanilla or chocolate Mayfield and then is blended and crafted with specialty ingredients for custom creations. Tons of holiday specialty flavors are available as well such as pumpkin spice lattes and more. Ice cream is also available for purchase by the pint.

It is located at 1720 Jacksboro Pike in LaFollette and can be reached at 423-201-4856. Business hours are 11 am to 6 pm Wednesday through Saturday. It is closed Sunday through Tuesday.
