CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – The Town of Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted last night to move ahead with parking improvements at the municipal building. The board accepted a bid for $38,946 to expand the parking lot in front of the building, a handicap ramp, striping, and curbing were included in the bid.

One bid for $11,000 was received for a dump bed for the new truck the street department has ordered. The board agreed to purchase the bed.

The municipal building is in need of some electrical work. One quote was received, but due to the amount of the quote, the project will need to be bid out.

Alderman Eric Smith requested the board allow City Recorder Trecia Kindred to look at additional fees the town could possibly collect from lodging. This would include hotel/motel, cabins, condos, Airbnb’s, etc. Smith feels the town is missing out on revenue that could be used for improvements throughout the town. The board agreed to allow her to look at the fees.

Alderman Patrick Pebley discussed progress with fundraising for the new playground. The Lions Club Eye Bank has pledged $35,000, an anonymous donor gave $100,000 and the excavation work for the project has been donated.

Anyone in the town of Caryville who wants to participate in the Christmas Light Contest must call the municipal building by Wed., Dec. 22 to be entered in the contest. A first prize of $300 will be awarded, second prize is $200, and third prize is $100. Santa will ride again this year through the Town of Caryville. Details will be announced as the date draws closer.

After the regular monthly meeting a special beer board meeting was held to approve two beer licenses. The first license was given to The Blind Frog Café at exit 141 for on premise consumption. The second license was for Pilot LLC for off premise consumption. The board explained it was a change of ownership. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 11/09/2021-6AM)
