LAFOLLETTE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – It’s been reported that Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) have had a miscommunication on a region change and CMS has canceled 14,000 BCBS of Tennessee Medicare Advantage policies in the Knoxville and surrounding countries.  Campbell and Claiborne counties are part of the Knox region.

According to Insurance Agent Hugh Neil with Herron-Connell, CMS will be sending letters and emails to the affected customers telling BCBS customers that their policy is canceled. CMS will recommend that policy holders go to Medicare.gov and have their policy rewritten.

Hugh Neil can be reached on his personal phone at 423.292.6511.

BCBS has contacted Herron-Connell and said that at some point BCBS would set up a mobile enrollment center at Riggs La Follette and man it with BCBS staff. The staff will help BCBS Medicare customers with renewing their coverage to minimize coverage problems. Dates for this service are yet to be set.

Neil is interested in having BCBS Medicare customers, the Sapphire plan holders, know that he is in his Riggs La Follette office and can take care of the sign-up issue in minutes with a signature.  So, if you have a BCBS Sapphire plan, simply stop by and sign a paper so you do not lose your coverage. “It is just that simple,” Neil said.

Neil can be reached on his personal phone at 423.292.6511. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 10/26/2021-6AM)
