CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – Allison Kitts Poston is WLAF’s educator of the week. Poston is the principal at Caryville Elementary School. She has been in education for 23 years and an administrator for 11.

Poston was raised in the Stinking Creek area and attended Wynn School kindergarten through eighth grade. She is a Campbell County High School graduate. Poston recieved her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Ky, now known as the University of the Cumberlands. She received her Master’s degree and Educational Specialist degree from Tennessee Tech.

Allison Kitts Poston is WLAF’s educator of the week.

Her first teaching position was at Caryville Elementary School, then after two years, she moved to Jacksboro Elementary. Her first administration position was at White Oak, before moving to Campbell County High School as assistant principal. Currently Poston is principal at Caryville Elementary.

According to Poston, she always knew she wanted to follow a career in education as both of her parents were educators.

“My mom was a teacher and my dad was in administration. Conversations at our house always revolved around lesson plans, new ideas and teaching strategies,” Poston said.

However, Poston said she never dreamed she would ever want to go into administration.

“It was the 3rd grade team I worked with at Jacksboro Elementary that inspired me to apply for my first administration job. I applied, and to my surprise, I was selected,” Poston said.

She said her goal as an administrator is to “be as good of an administrator as her sweet daddy was.”

“He always taught me to be kind, treat others with respect, let them know you appreciate them, and get down in the trenches with them,” Poston said.

Her favorite part of her job is the kids.

“I love walking down the hall or entering the cafeteria and be greeted with smiles and hugs. Knowing that while those children are in my building, they are loved, fed, and being educated makes me so happy,” Poston said.

Even “hard days” are made easier just by spending some time with a child.

“Their spirit is contagious and will make you look at things a little differently,” Poston said. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 10/28/2021-6AM)
