LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – The driver of a speeding minivan wrecked, ran and was taken down. La Follette Police Officer Zack Daugherty was operating mobile radar at the old Woodson’s grocery store when a 2013 beige Chrysler Town and Country minivan heading into town was clocked at 77 miles per hour. Daugherty pursued the minivan to no avail. Based on the LPD police report, the Chrysler reached speeds of up to 90 mph. Daugherty said the vehicle crossed the centerline of the road several times. The minivan attempted to turn from West Central Avenue onto Nevada Avenue, but it could not negotiate the turn. It hit the corner light pole head on at the Ben Rogers Building.

A young man, later identified as a 17-year old juvenile, along with two other passengers jumped out of the minivan and fled on foot up Nevada Avenue. Daughtery, with his weapon drawn, gave chase while giving commands of “police stop.” When the teen looked back the officer was able to spray a blast of pepper spray.

The suspect slowed down as Daugherty commanded him to stop ordering him to the ground. The teen allegedly did not comply. The officer grabbed the teen around the waist and took him down to the ground struggling to get the suspects hands behind his back as he fought with Daugherty. The policeman was soon able to cuff the teen..
