CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – Deputy Preston Mullins saw a blue Mitsubishi SUV with California license plate traveling north on I-75 just south of Caryville Exit 134 on Oct. 10. Mullins noticed the vehicle was traveling at a slow rate of speed, approximately 52 mph in a 65 mph zone in the passing lane. The vehicle was weaving from the center yellow line to the inner fog line and made an abrupt lane change hitting the far fog line.

Mullins made a traffic stop, but the driver of the vehicle was slow to react to emergency blue lights. As Mullins approached the SUV and made contact with the driver, he could allegedly smell Marijuana coming from the vehicle, according to a report from the sheriff’s department. When the driver was asked for a driver’s license and proof of registration, she seemed confused and was having a hard time focusing, as well as difficulty following simple commands. Mullins asked the driver to get out of the Mitsubishi to do field sobriety tests, while exiting the vehicle she began dropping items and was unsteady.

During field sobriety tests, Mullins noticed the woman had a green film and coloring to her tongue consistent with smoking Marijuana. The woman, identified as Shyisha Batts, failed the field sobriety tests. During a search of her SUV, Mullins found an opened bag of cannabis gummy candies lying in the driver side floorboard. According to the report, the label showed the candies had 500 milligrams of THC. He then found a Batman metal tray with a green leafy substance on it lying in the back seat of the vehicle.

Batts was arrested and asked if she had any contraband on her prior to entering the jail, to which she denied. While Batts was being searched at the jail she attempted to flush a large quantity of pills believed to be Oxycodone into the toilet of the jail.

Batts, 2407 Shepherd Valley Street, Raleigh, NC was charged with failure to maintain lane, driving under influence (DUI), possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession cocaine with intent to distribute, introduction of contraband into a penal facility and destruction of evidence.
