JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – The Town of Jacksboro passed two ordinances at last night’s monthly meeting. Ordinance 126 will allow all-terrain vehicles and side by side vehicles in groups of four or less inside a small area of the town.

These vehicles are defined as class 1 type all-terrain vehicles by the Tennessee Code Annotated. The class 1 type vehicles must meet several conditions to be operated on the road. Police Chief Jeremy Goins shared a brief list of requirements for the vehicles with the board that ranged from seatbelts, turn signals, windshields and roll bars. The occupants must wear a helmet. The vehicles can travel on Eagle Bluff Rd to Hilltop Rd, Eagle Rock Rd to Jacksboro City limits and Butter and Egg Rd from Eagle Bluff Rd to Queener Lane.  The ordinance defined riding times as during daylight hours, which includes 30 minutes after dawn and 30 minutes before sunset. Headlights and taillights are to be illuminated during this time.

Ordinance #124 had a second and final reading. The ordinance amends the Zoning Ordinance of The Town of Jacksboro by adding the definition of short term rental and allowing the rentals in zone B1 and B2. Short term rentals are not permitted in the R2 (residential district). The ordinance outlines each property owner wanting to operate a short-term rental must register with the city recorder, adhere to all guidelines for rentals and pay a $50 fee at the time of registration.

Goins updated the board about changes coming to how officers communicate with other departments. The sheriff’s department will be transitioning from repeater radios to digital radios in the next three to six months. Goins requested he be allowed to purchase digital radios for his department so they will be ready when the transition happens. The cost of the purchase is $12,026, he plans to use monies from the drug fund and proceeds from the sale of a patrol car to fund the purchase, the board approved the purchase.

The board approved Caryville Jacksboro Utilities to address the water issues on Liberty Street at the Methodist Church. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 10/08/2021-6AM)
