JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – The Jacksboro man indicted for second degree murder in a Dec. 4 drug related death had his case reset for a Nov. 29 status hearing in criminal court.

According to a grand jury indictment, John Michael Storey was the individual responsible for distributing the drugs to the victim, William Kent Blackwell.

After his brief status hearing on Monday morning, Storey’s next court appearance was scheduled for Nov. 29.

A joint investigation by the Tenessee Bureau of Investigation, the La Follette Police Department and the Eighth Judicial District Drug Task Force led to the indictment of Storey in connection to the overdose death.

On Dec. 4, 2020, special agents with the TBI Drug Investigation Division joined investigators with the LPD and the DTF in investigating the death of 34-year-old William Kent Blackwell. He was found deceased in a La Follette restaurant from a drug overdose, with Fentanyl determined as a contributing factor. The investigation revealed that John Michael Storey, 31, was the individual responsible for distributing the drugs to the victim.

Storey was indicted with one count of Second Degree Murder, one count of sale of a schedule II controlled substance and one count of delivery of a schedule II controlled substance. Storey remains free on a $250,000 bond, according to jail records. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 10/05/2021-6AM)
