LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Barking dogs did not deter Corey Bolwing from trying to break into a home on Demory Road. But when the homeowner pulled a gun on the young man, he ran.

Last Thursday morning, Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Justin Phillips responded to the predawn call. Based on Phillips report, the homeowner told him that at about 6:30am, her outside dogs began barking, and she went to see what started them barking. She told Phillips that she saw an unknown strange man yanking on the back storm door of her house. “He forcefully pulled on the door about 10 times trying to open the door,” she said.

The homeowner stated that she grabbed her gun and attempted to confront Bolwing. Bolwing ran away heading down College Hill Road.

Phillips caught up with Bolwing, and he allegedly admitted to trying to open the door to the home of someone he did not know according to the report. Bolwing told the deputy that he just wanted to use their WiFi.

Bolwing refused to offer up much information about himself except that he was from Knoxville, and that he had not had a state ID card in a long time.

During the intake process, Campbell County Corrections Officer Jacean Shears found a yellow plastic container on Bolwing, and the container appeared to have marijuana in it. Shears also located two pairs of pliers and screw drivers on Bolwing.

Bolwing was charged with attempted burglary, failure to identify and filing a false report as well as introduction of contraband into a penal institution.. Bolwing is free this morning on a $10,000 bond and is due in court on October 28. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 10/05/2021-6AM)

  1. Love/hate seeing stories like this. Good on the homeowner for protecting her property. Potential criminals should know that people here are armed and are not playing around. I only wish we could have a community where people worked and contributed instead of resorting to crime.
