LAFOLLETTE, TN. (WLAF) -Flu season is here.

As COVID- 19 numbers remain high, the flu can put an excess strain on the already taxed healthcare system, according to Shaun Lynch, a pharmacist at Terry’s Pharmacy.

“We want to minimize the health care issues and getting a flu shot is the most important way to do that,” he said. “Hospitals are already strained and overwhelmed. They really can’t handle flu cases as well.”

Professionals are hoping people getting immunized will reduce traffic in physicains’ offices and hospital emergency rooms. “We want to minimize all the traffic we can,” Lynch said.

The same demographic that is at high risk for COVID-19 is also at risk for the flu but Lynch cautioned that “anyone can sick from the flu.” “There is no reason to wait to take the flu shot,” he said.

Most insurances, as well as Medicare, will cover the shot, Lynch said.

Terry’s began administering the shots earlier this month. No appointment is needed with shots given at both Terry’s locations on Monday through Friday from 9 am until 7 pm.

Flu and COVID- 19 shots can be given during the same visit with the follow up COVID- 19 being administered later.

Terry’s offers vaccinations at home with free delivery. People are encouraged to call one of the pharmacies, La Follette (423.562.4928) or Jacksboro (423.563.7455) to receive an immunization shot without leaving their home. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED- 09/27/2021- 6AM)
