Air conditioning was running wide open on this warm day at the La Follette High School.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – On this Throwback Thursday, WLAF’s Charlie Hutson shares a photo of La Follette High School which for decades sat on West Central Avenue next to First Baptist Church and was built in the first quarter of the 1900s.

The above image shows the school long before the rear addition was built. The addition included more classrooms on top with a sunken floor gym on the bottom.

After the new high school opened in 1954 up the valley, this become the (as they were called then) La Follette Jr. High School until 1975. After it closed in 1975, the building was razed and a bank was built in the location.

“Looks like this image was shot in the warm months, the air condition system was running wide open, and on a side note, to the left you can see a part of the old Southern Railroad Depot,” said Hutson. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 09/16/2021-6AM-PHOTO COURTESY OF WLAF’S CHARLIE HUTSON)
