JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – From the looks of the agenda and proposed budget amendments, the Campbell County Board of Education has a busy night ahead. The regular monthly meeting starts at 6pm at the Campbell County Courthouse.

Some of the highlights of the agenda include the consideration of hiring seven new teachers along with five new special education teachers. Both moves are prompted by increased enrollment. The BOE is expected to award its camera bid to Central Technologies at a cost of more than $138,000.

Paying substitute teachers a monthly bonus is on tonight’s agenda. What is on the table is that bonus payments will be paid out once a month as subs filling in five days a month receive a $50 bonus, 10 days $100 and 20 days per month comes out to a $150 bonus. Subs are paid $65 daily. In addition to the monthly bonus, substitutes will be paid $10 for each Friday worked. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 09/14/2021-6AM)

  1. I personally believe that substitute teachers should be just that……a teacher, not a babysitter. They should be able to help the children with questions/problems they have with their studies. It’s very frustrating when your child has questions or needs help with something and their substitute can not help them. Then when their teacher returns, the students are expected to have their work completed, which is not, if they run into a problem or a situation they need further explained. The children are there to learn, they are our future and we need to invest in them and make sure they are learning all the tools necessary to become functioning adults.
