LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – A wreck with injury ended with an arrest. On Sat., Sept. 4, Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Shayne Wilburn was called to Grantsboro Rd about a wreck with injury. When he arrived, the Campbell County Rural Fire Service was cutting the top and side off the vehicle, a 2010 Chevy HHR, to get the passenger out.

Wilburn was assisting the CCRFS when he smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle based on his report. Wilburn spoke with the driver of the vehicle, William Everett Marcum, who allegedly appeared very intoxicated, according to a report from the sheriff’s department. At this point, Marcum was given field sobriety tests on which he allegedly performed poorly.

Marcum’s passenger, trapped inside the HHR, was freed by firefighters with the CCRFS. The injured man was airlifted to a Knoxville hospital.

Marcum, 26, 1513 Jeffers Road, Huntsville, was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and vehicular assault.
