LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – “We need to remember what happened that day, and we need to teach our young people what took place before they were born or were too young to remember,” said retired US Army Colonel Knud Salveson.

Under a sky full of sunshine, a healthy crowd stood or sat on the grounds of the La Follette Church of God to reflect, remember and honor those who lost their lives on Tuesday, September 11, 2001.

Salveson had been thinking for a long time about this remembrance ceremony and didn’t want the date to pass without recognizing that day on 9-11-2001. Though he had a lot of help from a lot of different people throughout the community, he was the driving force making sure this ceremony became a reality.

Young and old alike attended Saturday’s 9-11 ceremony on the grounds of the La Follette Church of God.

It was a near perfect weather day just like the weather was on that fateful day 20 years ago. The Campbell High Marching Band was there, along with the US Flag draped on the roof of the La Follette Church of God and another giant flag waving in the breeze on the La Follette Fire Department’s ladder truck. A military helicopter was on scene with several military personnel in attendance Saturday at the 11am ceremony. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 09/13/2021-6AM)
