LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – They looked like school kids but with something more shining in their eyes; 75 years worth of friendship and love.

Frankie and Ab (Albert) Bacon spent Saturday evening surrounded by family and loved ones at their 75 anniversary celebration. Their sons and their wives and grandchildren and great grandchildren watched as the pair cut their “wedding cake.” It was their first wedding cake, as they didn’t have one back in 1946 when they eloped to Middlesboro, Ky at age 19.

Vaughn Bacon pins a flower on his mom, Frankie, for his parents 75th wedding anniversary.

The legacy of love could be seen in every smile and heard in all the memories that were shared throughout the evening.

The occasion was marked by a special proclamation from the state of Tennessee in honor of Frankie and Ab’s long marriage and happy life. The proclamation was signed by Speaker of the House Cameron Sexton and State Rep. Dennis Powers. Gov. Bill Lee and his wife sent their own special message and letter to the happy couple as well. Both the proclamation and the governor’s letter were read aloud by Frankie and Ab’s grandson Aaron, who afterwards summed up how he felt about his grandparents. “They are the definition of consistency.”

And consistent Frankie and Ab have always been. Consistent with their friendship and love for one another, and consistent with their love for their family, their friends and their community. Hand in hand at 94 and “nearly 94”, Frankie and Ab continue their legacy of love.

This is what 75 years of love looks like. Frankie and Ab Bacon were married August 31, 1946.

“It’s been a good 75 years. She is my rock,” Ab said. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 08/31/2021-6AM)
