CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – Recently, a red four wheeler traveling on Hwy 116 caught the eye of Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Justin Phillips. A man later identified as Cody Delane Smith continued to drive the four wheeler to his driveway where Phillips conducted a traffic stop.

When Phillips spoke with Smith, he told him that he stopped him for violation of the helmet law. Smith responded he had been working on the four wheeler’s brakes and drove to the dump on Old Vasper Lane and back to his house, “because he knew he wasn’t supposed to be on the road without a helmet,” according to a report from the sheriff’s department.

Phillips checked Smith’s drivers license and discovered his license was revoked due to driving under the influence, but valid with an interlock device only.

Smith, 28, 1471 Hwy 116, Caryville was charged with violation of interlock device and violation of the helmet law. Smith is free on bond and is due in court Thursday, August 12. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 08/05/2021-6AM)

  1. My son got his 4wheeler impounded because of same thing. Didn’t know you had to have a driver’s license to drive a 4 wheeler. What about the younger people riding 4 wheelers they do not have a driver’s license. That was why he was on 4 wheeler because he didn’t know you had to have license. He had to plea guilty because DA wanted him to spend 30 days in jail and a year supervised probation.. He lost his 4 wheeler because he doesn’t have money to fight back with. The 4 wheeler was my his daughter’s.
