One official described the sink hole was washed out from the hole to the white stripe.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – It was just after 10:30am Sunday morning when City of La Follette Public Works Director Casey Boshears discovered a patched area of East Central Avenue had developed into a sink hole.

The right lane of the five lane highway, across from the post office, was marked off and traffic was diverted around via one lane.

East Elm Street is temporarily closed because of the sink hole detour.

Boshears had a crew out within minutes on Sunday morning to secure the area while La Follette Police Officer Darryl Chapman directed traffic. Ronnie Lee, with TDOT, was called from church to the scene.

TDOT also set up an arrow truck to direct drivers around the sink hole.
A look inside the sink hole as it is a few feet deep and spreads almost across the entire lane.

“TDOT has someone staying (overnight) with the sink hole to monitor the hole to make sure it doesn’t fall out over into the left lane,” added Boshears. Boshears expects work to begin first thing this morning. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 08/02/2021-6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF WLAF’S CHARLIE HUTSON)
