LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – UPDATE: Jake’s Day 2021 is full. Quick action is needed if you plan for your child to take part in next month’s JAKES Day, because the fun and educational event is limited to the first 200 registrants.

Arriving early to JAKES Day is a must especially this year with construction going on at the turn in to the Ball Farm Event Center.

The JAKES Day (Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics and Sportsmanship) program, hosted by the Pine Mountain Longbeards Chapter of the National Wildlife Turkey Federation (NWTF), is set for Saturday, Aug. 14, at 8 am, at the Ball Farm Event Center in east La Follette. It’s open to all children 17 and under.

On this 10th JAKES Day, events planned include fishing, casting, archery, shooting sports, inflatables, crafts, and lots more. All events will be taught by trained experts in the field, and volunteers will be on hand to assist.

Click HERE to print your child’s application form. Each child must have its own registration form, and it must be turned back in immediately, because the field of 200 participants will fill up quickly. Even though the registration deadline is July 25, the acceptance of applications will end at the 200th child.

JAKES Day activities at the 2019 event.

This is a free event for all current JAKES Members. These are the members who have paid a new annual membership fee since Jan. 1, 2021. There will be a $10 membership charge to all other children who would like to participate in JAKES Day. The $10 fee pays for their NWTF membership and allows them to participate in the event. If you have questions as to whether your child is a current member or not, contact Jamie Ball at 423-871-1900.

All 200 participants registering by July 25 will receive a T-Shirt, bag of goodies at registration, access to all activities at the event, lunch, and other prizes that will be awarded throughout the day. By becoming a Jakes member, your child also receives activity books in the mail every other month. At JAKES Day, several prizes will be given away to the participants, including bb guns, fishing rods and reels, a shotgun and a LIFETIME hunting and fishing license.

All parents are invited to attend JAKES Day as well, but children will remain in their assigned groups and under the direction of their group leaders for each rotation. Lunch will be provided for all attendees.

Fishing is another fun part of JAKES Day.

JAKES Day festivities will begin with registration at 8 am, and activities start at 8:45am. Organizers say it is imperative that you are not late. Participants will be divided into predetermined groups by age, and activities will be completed on a rotational basis with assigned times for each group.

Agencies involved in the JAKES Day are NWTF, CORA, RMEF, TWRA, TN Department of Forestry, Campbell County Sheriff’s Department, and more. Tents, fans, and lots of water will be provided throughout the day. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/07/2021-6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF WLAF’S CHARLIE HUTSON-UPDATED 08/02/2021-11AM))
