CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – A Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper was on stationary patrol late Sunday night on I-75 near Mile Marker 141 (Huntsville-Oneida exit) when a northbound GMC SUV passed by at a high rate of speed.

The trooper activated radar and clocked the Sierra traveling at 100 miles per hour in a 60 mph zone, according to the report from the THP.

At 11:21pm, the 2015 GMC was pulled over by the trooper, and he requested that the driver roll his window down all the way. Based on the report, a strong odor of alcohol emitted from the Sierra. The trooper said the driver exhibited signs of being intoxicated, was not able to follow simple instructions and failed sobriety testing.

The driver, 35-year- old Roberto Hernandez-Reyes of Detroit, was arrested and charged with DUI (driving under the influence), reckless endangerment, speeding 100/60 in a construction zone – no workers present and child restraint device.

According to the report, the other four occupants in the GMC were safe and secure. Three minors were released to the adult female who was a passenger in the front seat. The children range in age from four to 14.

Hernandez-Reyes is free this morning on a $4,000 secure bond and is due in general sessions court on Thursday at 1pm. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/27/2021-6AM)
