JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – “I’m thankful to be a Cougar,” said Josh Kerr. Yes, he’s the same Josh Kerr who stood across the field from Campbell County for years as he coached the Clinton Dragons.

Most, especially those close to the Cougar football program, know that Kerr is the brother-in-law of Campbell Football Coaches Justin and Matt Price. He’s married to Brooke Price Kerr.

High school football practice begins today all across Tennessee, and that also signals Kerr’s first official day as Campbell’s associate head football coach. “I get to coach,” said a thrilled Kerr. It’s acclamation week, and Campbell’s first practice starts this morning at 7am.

“Since Matt is now the athletic director, Josh is taking over as associate head coach,” said Justin Price. Matt Price is Campbell’s defensive coordinator.

Josh Kerr’s first day coaching the Campbell Cougars starts this morning at 7am.

“We’re family (Kerr and the Prices), and football is just part of the regular conversations we have when we get together, especially at the holidays,” said Kerr. Over the course of the past 10 years, Kerr joining the Price twins’ staff just could not work out due to timing or some other snag. “We came close a couple of times, and I almost feel this time is just God’s will,” added Kerr.

Kerr’s coaching career began in 2002 assisting his dad, the legendary Larry Kerr, at Anderson High. It came on the heels of a highly successful career at AC, the University of Georgia and ETSU. It’s only fitting the former standout lineman, a center, guard and tackle coach both lines for Campbell.

Aside from being the head coach of Clinton, he coached shoulder-to-shoulder with his dad at Union County the last four seasons taking over a team that had lost 28-straight games. The Kerrs had the Patriots in the playoffs in their second season.

Bottom line. Kerr is a winner, and you can see that a mile away. “It’s that attitude that you expect to win every time out that is so special,” said Kerr.

Coach Justin Price has assembled an all-star coaching staff that includes four former Cougars; Troy Arnold, Nick Bailey, Chris Honeycutt and Landon Reese. “Nick and Landon played on two of the best teams we’ve ever had,” said Price.
