LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – The South Campbell County Rotary Club met on Tuesday, with Rotirian Larry Tanis giving a presentation on the Leadership Campbell County Program, along with information on the East Tennessee Regional Leadership.

Tanis gave a brief overview of Leadership Campbell County and its benefits, encouraging others to sign up for the program. Leadership Campbell County is currently taking applications. The cost of tuition is $750. Tuition can be paid by individuals or corporate sponsors. The goal of the program is to provide participants with the opportunity to build relationships, serve the community and engage with political, civic and business leaders. The program consists of nine monthly, full day sessions held in various locations in the county. Participants are educated about Campbell County and its many advantages and meet and talk with the region’s current leaders, as well as explore the county’s business sector. Topics may include education, health and human services, law and justice, business and technology, industry, tourism and more. In March, attendees will travel to Nashville for a two day, one night state government trip. The leadership program is sponsored by the Campbell County Chamber of Commerce.

South Campbell County Rotary Club President Rayma Daugherty announced this year’s Rotary Golf Tournament will be Oct. 6.

“For everything that attendees get to do, it is a great value and a great program that improves community involvement throughout the county,” Tanis said. “You learn about things you never knew were going on. Your county is here and you may have lived here your whole life but there are tons of things happening and going on that you just don’t know anything about,” said Rotirian and Leadership Campbell County graduate Nancy Green.

New Rotary President Rayma Daugherty also spoke on the benefits of the course. “It’s great for team building and you get to learn and meet new people in the county; the program has wonderful guest speakers and visits amazing places,” Daugherty said.

Daugherty also made several announcements during the meeting, including that Rotary received approval for its grant request which will support Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Mark your calendars for this year’s event which is scheduled for Oct. 2 at 9 am.
