CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – While Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Timothy Powers was inside the Shell gas station Sunday morning, a man told him that they needed him across the street at the Waffle House. “A bunch of people are in an altercation,” the man said.

It was 3:45am when Powers went over to the Waffle House where there were several people standing in the parking lot and then walked back inside. Deputy Powers talked with a man who was unsteady on his feet and smelled of alcohol. He placed the man, 23-year old Tyler David Henson of Oneida, under arrest for public intoxication.

As Powers was speaking with a woman outside the eatery, Deputy Jacob Fox arrived. Fox entered the Waffle House and escorted 23-year old Heyden Zachariah Byrge of Helenwood outside to speak with him. Fox writes in his report that “Byrge smelled of alcohol, and that Byrge told him he’d had a few beers at a Knoxville night club before coming to the Waffle House.”

According to the narrative from the sheriff’s office, Byrge was allegedly belligerent with customers in the parking lot and the deputies as they tried to speak with him. Deputy Fox reported that he told Byrge multiple times to calm down, but Byrge continued to be belligerent with customers outside the restaurant.

Deputy Fox placed Byrge under arrest and charged him with PI (public intoxication) and disorderly conduct. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/01/2021-6AM)
