LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – A homeless Campbell County man was found dead in Norris Lake on Monday afternoon, according to the Campbell County Sheriff’s Department. An autopsy has been ordered, but currently, no foul play is suspected, according to Sheriff Robbie Goins.

James Jones, 35, was found floating in the water near the White Bridge area around Lonas Young Park. Deputies responded to the call around 1:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon. According to Sheriff Goins, Jones was homeless and had been staying in the area of the bridge. Family members had apparently spoken with Jones several days ago, but after not hearing from him, they had gone to check on him at the lake where he stayed.

“The family went out searching for him and found him floating in the water. Right now, it just appears to be a tragic accident, but an autopsy has been ordered,” Goins said.

The incident remains under investigation, according to the sheriff’s department. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 06/29/2021-11AM)
