LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Last week, Knoxville contractor James Emmert came to the monthly workshop seeking $2,800 payment for services he alleges were rendered in 2019. Tuesday afternoon, the council was scheduled to vote on paying the invoice, but no motion was made to pay the invoice by council members. Last night the LaFollette City Council and Mayor worked quickly through its agenda for the month.

Up first were five ordinances and resolutions. Two of the ordinances had a final reading. Ordinance 2021-04 adding chapter six of title seven, Fire Code of the City of LaFollette Code. The ordinance outlines burning should be between 7 am and dusk, all fires must be completely extinguished by dusk and never be left unattended, piles are to not to exceed eight feet by eight feet and be no more than four feet high. Additionally, no stumps may be burned in the city; Ordinance 2021-05 requiring all commercial dumpsters to be closed and locked. All dumpsters are to have the name and phone number of the private refuse collector in a highly visible location.

Three ordinances had a first reading. Ordinance 2021-06 amending the City of LaFollette code with respect to cutting and trimming of trees. The ordinance outlines where brush is to be placed for pick-up and the length and diameter of brush/limbs. Brush/limbs taken down by a contractor or landscaper are not be included in the brush collection program and will not be collected. Ordinance 2021-07 amending the zoning ordinance of the City of LaFollette. The ordinance defines a single-family dwelling. Ordinance 2021-08 adopting the City of LaFollette short-term rental policy stating all short-term rentals must be issued an operating permit and follow the guidelines for safe and reasonable operation of short-term rentals.

Five promotions were approved for the fire department. Steve Hales was promoted to full time fire fighter II/AEMT at a salary of $32,605.47; Dewayne Seiber was promoted to full time fire fighter II/EMR with a salary of $32,105.47; Michael Walker was promoted to full time fire fighter/AEMT with a salary of $32,605.47; Nathaniel Vannorstran was promoted to full time entry-level fire fighter with a salary of $30,650.47 and Dustin Davis was promoted from Lieutenant to Captain with a salary of $37,498.96. All promotions are effective June 5, 2021. Brian Leach was promoted to a full-time laborer with a salary of $25,667.20 effective June 5, 2021.
