LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Valley View’s music instructor Amanda Goins is WLAF’s teacher of the week. Goins teaches music to all age groups at the elementary school. She has been a teacher for seven years now.

Music teacher Amanda Goins is WLAF’s teacher of the week.

According to Goins her desire to become a teacher was in part due to her parents who “instilled in her a love of learning, reading and music.” “I always loved going to school and learning new things,” Goins said. From a young age she believed she would go into the education field, but it wasn’t until high school that she knew she would focus on a career in teaching music.

“In high school I had a band director, Mr. Tim Paul, who really inspired me to become a music teacher,” Goins said. Her favorite part about teaching music is that she gets to see her students every single year from pre-k until they graduate elementary school. “Starting in Pre-k, I see my students every week, all the way through fifth grade. This allows me the opportunity to not only be able to build relationships with my students, but it gives me a chance to instill a love for music that will hopefully follow them throughout their life,” Goins said.

Despite all the chaos and changes brought on by the pandemic, Goins said it has been a great year and that students have amazed her with their “willingness to be flexible and their eagerness to learn.” “When we returned to school in August, you could tell that the students missed being at school and they were ready to learn,” said Goins.
