DAYTON, TN (WLAF) – We’ve known her as Sarah Cain forever. After marrying last summer, she’s now known as Sarah Weinburger.

Sarah’s basketball season and career came to an end last month; fittingly in the NAIA national tournament. All four of her seasons at Bryan College, she and the Lady Lions finished in the national tournament. Bryan’s run during the Cain-Weinburger Era totaled 103 victories against only 17 losses, with 10 of those losses coming in her freshman season.

John was the first Cain to wear jersey number 45. The younger Cains followed suit.

John, Tucker, Sarah and Anna Cain, all four of the Cain youngsters are Bryan alums or soon will be. “We never would have guessed that all four Cain kids would go to the same college, but looking back, we can’t help but know God has a funny way of making things work for His glory. I am so thankful for my time spent at Bryan and everyone I have met along the way,” said Sarah Cain-Weinburger.

Baseball was the sport John and Tucker played. Sarah played basketball. Volleyball is where Anna excels at Bryan.

Her high school coach at Campbell High, Brad Honeycutt, said, “She’s what we want to produce in this program in every way. She has so many things going her way spiritually, academically and athletically.”

Jason Smith recruited and coached Sarah at Bryan College. “She has never put her own interests or desires before our team or school. Any role she has been asked to do she has gone in to accomplish without hesitation. As a two-year captain, her leadership went well past the court as she has shown her faith and love of Christ in all she has done,” said Coach Smith.

Cain-Weinburger calls her years at Bryan nothing short of memorable. She loved every second of it from the worst days to the best days. “This place and my experiences have made me who I am. I wouldn’t trade that for the world,” noted Cain-Weinburger.

“My coaches took a chance on my four years ago that turned into me being apart of some of the most successful teams to ever come through Bryan College. I cannot thank them enough for allowing me to lead this team for the past two years and continuing the legacy that two of our former captains created,” said Sarah.

Sarah was a sophomore on Honeycutt’s first team. “I could tell she was going to run the team from day one. She is one of the top two or three hardest working players I have had in my 12 years of coaching,” said Honeycutt. He goes on to brag how much she improved at the collegiate level. “She was a very good high school player and an even better player,” added Honeycutt.

“She will be deeply missed within our Lady Lion program as well as our campus, but what she is destined to achieve in the world will far exceed all she’s already accomplished,” said Coach Smith.

“Attending Bryan has blessed me with life lessons, numerous teammates, lifelong sisterhoods, and my wonderful husband. I will forever be grateful for this opportunity, and the support that my family has shown me throughout the years,” stated Sarah.

“If possible, I would go back and do it all again,” said Cain-Weinburger.

“Can’t wait to see what she becomes in life,” said Coach Honeycutt. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 04/22/2021-6AM)
