CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – Droopy eyes, “on the nod” and slurred speech confirmed for Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Preston Mullins what he already thought to be the case for 51-year- old Rodney Dale South, Oneida, and that was that South was DUI.

According to Mullins’ report, he saw a Jeep swerving back and forth in traffic on I-75 around 3 am on Sunday. That action prompted Mullins to pull the Jeep over, and that’s when he allegedly saw a droopy eyed Smith and heard his slurred speech.

South performed poorly on his field sobriety test; the one Mullins conducted as well as the portion Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Michael Freels conducted based on the report.

As South’s Jeep was being inventoried, officers found a large rubber tube that had been altered into a smoking device. What was believed to be meth residue was found in the tube. South allegedly admitted to smoking meth earlier.

South, arrested for the third time in Campbell County, according to jail records, was charged with DUI (driving under the influence) and possession of drug paraphernalia. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 04/20/2021-6AM)
