LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – A Downtown La Follette building, believed to be more than 100 years old, has been razed.

TOP PHOTO: The La Follette Press has had four locations in its history, and this was the second location; North Tennessee Avenue.

This 110 year old building was torn down last week.

Records indicate the building, which was located on North Tennessee Avenue across from the Big Orange Barber Shop, was built around 1910 and has housed several businesses over the 110 year span.

In the 1970s, the Urban Renewal project tore down everything past this building to the corner of North Tennessee Ave and Mill Street making it a parking lot.

This is the look in early 2018.

Most people remember the building as where The La Follette Press was located from the late 1930s to 1984. After that it become the City Pawn Shop & Music Store. After City Pawn, the building has set vacant for many years.

No word yet on what is next for this property.

In the last few years, the building began to fall down, and on February 2, 2018, the city condemned the building. Last week the building was razed by the new property owners. No word yet on what the plans are for this space. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 04/12/2021-6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF WLAF’S CHARLIE HUTSON)
