Robert Kennedy, a loving husband and father, age 76 of Jacksboro, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 after a lengthy battle with health issues. He was born on June 17, 1944. Robert was an avid outdoorsman, that enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Easter holds a special meaning form Robert, as he recounts Easter morning, years ago when he became a member of the family of God. In his younger years this led to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with co-workers and friends. Later years found him driving a church bus for a youth ministry before health issues took its toll. He will be remembered by his family, friends, and canine companion “Skippy”, for his many acts of kindness, humorous wit, and mischievous smile.

Preceded in death by his parents: Jake and Mary Kennedy; brothers Lonzie, John, and Leon Kennedy; and sisters Deelie Thomas, Della Phillips, and Tensie Nelson,

He is survived by his loving wife Phyllis Kennedy; daughter Brenda Rookard and husband Joe and Ronda Massengill and husband Jeff; grandchildren Ashley Clark and husband Ben and Nathan Rookard and wife Briana; great-grandchildren AnnaClaire Rookard, and Tristan Clark; sister Martha Thrasher of Albany, Ky; brothers Joe Kennedy of Jacksboro, TN, Clyde Kennedy and wife Sandra of Parker, IN, and Elbert Kennedy and wife Doris of Rocky Top, TN; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 9, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 PM in the chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home with funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM with Rev. George Asbury officiating. Family and friends will meet on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 10:15 AM at Martin Wilson Funeral Home to go in funeral procession for a 11:00 AM interment at Jacksboro Cemetery.
