LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – The City of La Follette is moving forward with filling the city administrator and codes/animal control officer positions vacated earlier this year. Watch WLAF’s telecast of the meeting HERE.

On Jan. 11, Stan Foust was appointed interim city administrator taking over for Jimmy Jeffries. City officials voted to pay Foust $1,000 a month in compensation for his extra duties on top of already being city recorder and human resource director/risk manager. Earlier this month, the council agreed Foust will receive the city administrator salary until the end of the fiscal year (June 30). At the April monthly meeting, council is expected to ratify Foust’s salary of interim city administrator effective Feb. 27, 2021.

At a previous meeting, the council agreed to divide the codes enforcement/ animal control position from a single position to two. Last night the council discussed the hiring of Jeff Duncan as codes enforcement officer with a salary of $33,000 and current part- time LPD patrol officer Jami Hall will be promoted to full- time animal control/level II patrol officer effective April 10, 2021, at a salary of $32,457.40. The council discussed purchasing an animal control truck and decided to put the vehicle out for bids.

Under administration, the council will have several items to vote on next week. Declaring April as fix up clean up month in the city, and Friends of Campbell County Animals requested a donation to help with a grant they have received for feral cats and cats within the city. Council will vote on paying $3,700 for the Celebrate Campbell County fireworks show comprised of two seven-minute shows on different ends of the city. The back canopy of the post office building needs to be scraped and painted at cost of $1,500. Core drilling for exploration of rock on the 19 acres of property on Jacksboro Pike of $2,500 rounded out administrative matters. The prime property faces the four lane between Bojangles and the UT Medical building. 

Approval of hiring Cannon and Cannon and Studio Four Designs for architectural and engineering services for the indoor recreation facility is on the agenda for next Tuesday’s regular monthly meeting. The city borrowed the money for the building in the recent capital outlay note, the funds for the architectural and engineering services will come from those proceeds as well.

Two ordinances will have a first reading, Ordinance 2021-01 abandoning a portion of an unopened street located within the North 14th Street of the city. Ordinance 2021-02 adopting and enacting a comprehensive codification and revision of the ordinance of the City of LaFollette municipal code. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 03/30/2021-6AM)
