A truck fire shut down the four lane in La Follette early Sunday afternoon.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – An exhausting weekend of battling flooding around town turned to fire calls during the mid-day on Sunday.

LFD and LPD responded to a house fire in east La Follette.

Just after 11 am, there was a house fire. It was quickly contained by firefighters with the La Follette Fire Department. A lot of smoke had to be blown out of the home.

This 18-wheeler carrying cattle caught fire on the four lane early Sunday afternoon.
The early afternoon fire hit at the height of church letting out at churches in town creating a lot of stopped traffic as the road was shutdown.

About an hour later, in the noon hour, a big rig hauling cattle caught fire at the 25W and Beech Street split near JR’s Tires. The driver of the rig was able to separate the tractor from the trailer. La Follette Police Officers Darryl Chapman and Sergeant Noah Riggs were first on the scene and used the fire extinguishers from their cruisers until LFD units could get from the east side fire a couple of minutes later. The fire was extinguished and the the load of cattle was saved.

La Follette Fire Chief Jimmy Pack notes that 43 cattle were saved; 18 heffers, 13 steer and 12 bulls.
The 18-wheeler was headed from Greeneville to Iowa.
