JACKSBORO, TN. (WLAF)- Tuesday night, the Campbell County Board of Education approved a one time bonus for a number of employees.

Meeting via Zoom, the board voted to give full-time certified employees a one-time payment of $480.44 while part- time employees will receive $240.22. These are COVID-19 related bonuses.

In other business:

  • Board attorney Dail Cantrell said the lawsuit against the Potter Southeast rock quarry was moving ahead. Attorneys for Potter Southeast have filed a motion for summary judgement hoping to have the case terminated. Currently, Cantrell is working to have the case scheduled for a hearing with Eighth Judicial District Circuit Court Judge John McAffee. He expressed optimism to the board regarding the future of the case if it is allowed to move forward. “There is meat to the bones of our complaint,” he said.
  • Dixie Roofing was granted a $1.1 million contract to repair school roofs. Board member Jeff Miller said awarding the bid to Dixie Roofing resulted in “substantial savings.”
  • The results of Campbell County Director of Schools Jennifer Fields evaluation will be ready by next month’s board meeting. The board will discuss the evaluation at the April meeting.
  • Board member Faye Heatherly informed the board that the state legislature would be discussing several bills that could be of interest to the board.  Among the topics are truancy, child abuse, text books and defining what constitutes a teacher.
  • Fields expressed her appreciation to Terry’s Pharmacy for its work in administering COVID-19 vaccinations to school staff. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED 03/11/2021- 6AM)
