JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – County commissioners on the budget and finance committee met via Zoom on Monday evening, passing several resolutions and amendments.

Amendments passed included several regarding the general purpose school fund including a one time pay bonus for school staff such as cooks, janitors and non certified employees. Last month the state had provided funds for a one time pay bonus for teachers and school nurses.  This pay bonus is being handled by the school board to cover employees that had not been covered by the state.

Appropriations for the central cafeteria fund for dining room equipment needs and other small equipment needs was also approved.

Other budget amendments approved included $10,000 in additional funds needed due to an increase in drug overdoses and the county’s cost of autopsies and transportation of the bodies. The increase needed was $10,000, bringing the total cost up to around $60,000. Last year’s cost was around $48,000 for these services.

Ambulance service fund appropriation reductions were also approved.

Another amendment was to the highway public works fund, which needed funds realigned due to an increase in quarry costs.

Commissioners also discussed and approved a resolution to move funds from the ambulance service department. According to commissioners, this won’t impact present operational status to the ambulance department. The funds were set aside initially for a day truck, but were moved back in November in case of a shortfall.

Budget amendments passed committee and will be voted on at next week’s commission meeting at 6 p.m. at the county courthouse.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 03/09/2021-6AM)
