KNOXVILLE, TN. (WLAF)- Timothy Wayne Turben will spend the next 97 months in a federal prison after pleading guilty to distributing child pornography. Last week, Turben, 40, LaFollette, was sentenced on the single charge with federal prosecutors dropping two other distribution charges.

Turben was accused in a federal indictment of disseminating the images across social media platforms. When FBI authorities were able to view his cache of the images in 2018, they found 75 videos and over 1,000 digital images, according to federal court records. Turben allegedly confessed during the raid on his home that the images were his and he had sent them to others.

The investigation into Turben began when a social media company notified the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that Turben’s account was used to send child pornography, according to a press release from the Department of Justice.

Not only will Turben spend the next 97 months in jail, he will also be on five years probation following his release. He must also register as a sex offender.

The court recommended that Turben receive sexual offender treatment as well as undergo a mental health evaluation. He is to follow any recommendations of that evaluation, according to court records.

Turben was fined $100 and ordered to pay $6,000 restitution as well. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED 02/24/2021- 6AM)
