NEWCOMB, TN (WLAF)- Suspicion of a suspended license cost a Pioneer man a trip to jail. Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Christopher West was on Highway 297 on Feb. 13 when he noticed a brown Toyota Tacoma. West was familiar with the driver of the truck and had suspicion that his driver’s license was suspended. West initiated a traffic stop to check the driver’s license. Once the vehicle had stopped, West saw the driver identified as Austin Colby Roberts quickly jump out of the pick-up and begin walking towards a home near the road.

West stepped out of his cruiser and asked Roberts if he had a valid driver’s license. Roberts allegedly told him it was in his truck, according to the report from the sheriff’s office. At this point, he then began quickly walking to the front door of the home. When he was ordered to stop, he said “no” and continued towards the house. West began a foot pursuit and made contact with Roberts when he was entering the home. He was able to arrest him after using force to remove him from the house.

Roberts, 26, 8412 Highway 297, Pioneer is charged with driving while revoked/suspended (3rd offense) and resist stop frisk halt search.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 02/22/2021-6AM)
