LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – No sooner than the call of an intoxicated driver near Walmart was called in to E-911 Dispatch, a wreck was reported just up the four lane. Around 9:30 pm Tuesday Jacksboro Police Sgt. Franklin Ayers responded to the crash at the city limit sign next to Community Trust Bank at Wier Woods.

The sergeant reported he found 22-year- old Daniel Steakley of Duff passed out behind the wheel of 2011 Ford Fusion. The car had crashed through a City of La Follette city limit sign and rock flower bed.

According to Ayers’ report, he could smell the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Steakley and observed Steakley’s speech was slurred, and that he had blood shot eyes. A can of beer was allegedly found in the driver side door, and once outside the car, Steakley fell to the ground even though JPD Officer Allen Bumgardner was trying to keep Steakley from falling based on the report.

When asked if he’d had anything to drink, Steakley stated he had three beers at a west Knoxville bar. A field sobriety test was administered and Ayers deemed Steakley performed poorly and placed him under arrest charging him with DUI (driving under the influence).
