JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – A most unique basketball season came to a heartbreaking end for the Campbell County Lady Cougars on Wednesday night at the John R.W. Brown Gymnasium.

Clinton broke open a 20-20 district quarterfinal game after halftime and kept Campbell at bay the final two quarters all the while making its free throws down the stretch. Even though the Lady Cougars outscored Clinton 23-22 in the fourth quarter, the Lady Dragons nipped Campbell 55 to 53.

The win sends 5th seeded Clinton on to the semi-finals on Friday at Oak Ridge against the Wildcats. Campbell, the four seed, concludes its season at 9 & 14.

It was the final time suiting up for the Orange-n-Blue for seniors Megan Asher, Alyssa Brown, Kayleigh Jordan and Keely Nelson. Brown scored 13 points in her final appearance on Brown Court while Jordan added 10. Asher had a point, and Nelson, who saw action, did not score.

Junior Cora Browning led CCHS with 14. Impressive Freshman Izzy Proffitt finished the night and season with 13 points.

The Cougars are scheduled to host Karns in the boys bracket of the district quarterfinals Thursday at 7 pm at Brown Gym. You can watch the game live over the WLAF – Doyle’s Tire Shop Sports Network.
