Hugh Pierce Garner, 87, of Signal Mountain, Tennessee, passed away February 10, 2021.  He was the son of the late Isaac Leonard Garner and Marie Lewis Garner.  He was a prominent attorney who practiced law in Chattanooga for over 62 years.

Having been born in Marion County and raised in Campbell County, he graduated from La Follette High School recognized as an outstanding scholar and athlete in basketball and football. He attended undergraduate school at the University of Tennessee and received the ROTC Leadership Award. He was a four-year starter on the UT football team, a member of the National Championship Team of 1951 under General Neyland, and received the Roy N. Latspeich Memorial UT Scholastic Award in 1954 . He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History.  He was a member of Sigma Chi and the Scarabbean Secret Society. He served in the United States Army and the United States Army Reserve.

He graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law.  Thereafter, he practiced law as a named partner in a firm that always bore in part his name. He was a member of the Chattanooga Bar Association, Tennessee Bar Association, Tennessee Bar Foundation, and a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.

Mr. Garner was a former member of the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club, the Mountain City Club, the Walden Club, and attended the Signal Mountain Baptist Church where he was very active in his younger years.

Mr. Garner is survived by his wife, Marilyn Burnett Garner; daughter, Paige Garner Morse; son, H. Griffith Garner (Sarah); three granddaughters, Paige Marie Morse, Jessica Ann Garner, and Margaret Mary Garner; grandson, Hugh Thomas Morse; great-grandson Davis Carlton Morse; and five nephews and one niece.

The family deeply appreciates the ongoing show of love and support from our extended family and numerous friends.  However, due to pandemic restrictions and our desire not to encourage the spread of this highly infectious virus, there will be a private family graveside service at Pine Grove Cemetery in Jasper, Tennessee very near to where he was born.
