JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – The Lady Eagles jumped on Athens early on Saturday afternoon at Agee Gym and did not let up on the Lady Cougars winning 44 to 25.

Jacksboro Middle School, coached by Travis and Amanda Thompson and Spenser St. John, hosted the first round sectional match-up and advances to the quarterfinals and were set to play tonight at Chuckey (Greene County) against the Chuckey Doak Knights. However, given the weather forecast, the game has been postponed and will be played at Anderson County High School on Wed., Feb. 3, at 5:30 pm.

JMS never trailed Saturday leading at every juncture including 22-7 at the half. Athens season came to an end in the sudden death sectionals. Only the two teams that make it to the championship, later in the week, move on to the state tournament.

Lady Eagles Bella Lester, Lacey Pemberton, Destiny Rutherford, Colie Thompson and Karli Whited are key contributors according to Coach Travis Thompson.

“We’re adjusting here in the tournament since we had very little of a regular season. A lot of what we usually learn/adjust comes way before the post season,” said Coach Travis Thompson.

A Wednesday evening win vaults Jacksboro into the semifinals. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 02/01/2021-6AM-UPDATED at 3PM)
