Hancel Mercer, age 94 of Jacksboro, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 26, 2021. He was born on September 28, 1926 to the late Willy Roosevelt Mercer and Irene (Johnson) Mercer. Hancel loved the outdoors, watching the news and sports, and cheering on his Tennessee Vols and Arkansas Razorbacks. He also loved reading his bible and going to church where he was a member of Bruce Gap Church of God. Hancel was a U.S. Navy Veteran having retired after 20 years of service where he served in the Korean War and WWII.

In Addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Georgia Ann Mercer; son Ernie Boshears and wife Vickie; and sisters Betty Rogers, Maragret Wallington, Vernia Lee House and Ruby Cook.

He is survived by his daughter Sue Caughorn of Jacksboro; brothers Tommy Mercer of Atlanta, Bill Mercer of Mississippi; sisters Martha James and husband Beau of Mississippi and Imogene Pinkston of Mississippi; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family receive friends 12:00-1:00 PM on Saturday, January 30, 2021 in the chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home with funeral service to follow at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow funeral service at Queener Cemetery with Military Honors done by the Campbell County Honor Guard.
