JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – The man who was many things to many people in this small community has died. John Bond, who moved here from Kentucky as a young man in the 1950s, died Monday night.

Old timers know Bond from the La Follette Community Hospital, now Tennova La Follette Medical Center. Others remember his work as the director of the Campbell County EMS. He was director from the beginning of the CC EMS, serving for decades. Bond was later the owner-operator of VitalCare Medical Transportation. Over the years, Bond served his community in many capacities including terms on the county commission.

For WLAF, Bond was one its biggest supporters, encouragers and listeners. He and his dog traditionally made a stop by the station on Saturday afternoons. His last Saturday visit was on Dec. 26. This past Saturday, Bond called to say he wouldn’t be by the station, and that he hoped to see us next week.

John Bond was the former president of the Tennessee Ambulance Service Association. The TASA annually awards the “John Bond Administrator of the Year” award.

Cross Smith Funeral Home is handling the arrangements for the Bond Family.
