Doyle Eugene King LaFollette – Doyle Eugene King, age 75, of White Oak lost his battle with cancer at Oak Ridge Medical center, surrounded by family, on January 3, 2021.

A graduate of Cumberland University, he brought his love of teaching to thousands of students throughout his career as an educator at LaFollette Elementary School and LaFollette Middle School where he retired in 2007.  He was proudly named teacher of the year in 2004 by the Campbell County Chamber of Commerce.  He was a brother, a husband, a parent, and a grandfather. He never tired of spending time with his family.  His greatest sadness was the distance he felt from Covid-19, a sadness his family shared.  He has left a large void to those that love him.

He is preceded in death by his father, Albert King, his mother, Nannie Williams, his brothers Ed and James, sisters Beulah Mazingo/White, Irene Porter, Katherine Napier, Carolyn Davis and Lela Gordan.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gail, his son Michael, his daughter Paula and her husband Matt, his son David and his wife Kayla, his grandchildren Hayden and Jude, his brother Virgil, his sister Doris Everett and many beloved nephews and nieces.

His wishes are to be cremated, possibly to haunt and spy on his children and wife.  We can only hope that is the way it works.

The family is postponing a gathering until the secession of Covid-19 that robbed him of so much of his freedom, happiness, and family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the charity Doyle supported wholeheartedly for so many years, St. Jude’s.

We miss you pappaw, old man, dad, pop and papaw.  One name would never fit – you were too many things to so many people.

The family has entrusted the care of Doyle King to Martin Wilson Funeral Home “Where families matter most”
