LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Valley View Elementary School Principal Jason Dotson is WLAF’S educator of the week. Dotson is serving in his 18th year as an educator in the Campbell County public school system.

During his career, Dotson has taught at Jacksboro Elementary, LaFollette Middle School, and is currently in his eighth year as principal at Valley View Elementary. He said he felt “blessed beyond words to be the principal of Valley View Elementary School.

Dotson said he pursued a career in education because of his passion to see young people learn, grow, and reach their maximum potential.

“Hopefully one day they can look back and say that Mr. Dotson helped them be successful. That is why I think we grind every day to help young people reach success,” Dotson said.

He said much of his inspiration comes from one of his former principals from Valley View.

Dotson’s favorite part about being a principal is morning greetings with staff and students. He said he likes to set a “positive tone for the day and make them feel welcome and excited to be there.

Dotson also said that despite “these trying times” he believes there are many things we can celebrate this year. “One is just how much more emphasis we put on having clean hygiene. I also think that it’s a positive that out of necessity, we all are communicating much better and staying better connected to our staff, students, and parents.” (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHE – 12/10/2020-6AM)
