KNOXVILLE, TN (WLAF) – Who saw this coming? Not me. Certainly not Hardin Valley. From Izzy Proffitt’s opening deep corner three to the final horn, it was all Campbell County on Tuesday night at Hardin Valley Academy. Watch the game HERE on demand.

The Lady Cougars raced out to a 29 to 10 lead at the half with 21 points from behind the arc. HVA opened the second half chasing Campbell and getting close at 29 to 17, but that’s when the chase ended. The Lady Cougars scored 28 of the next 37 points building its largest lead at 57 to 24 enroute to a 57 to 28 victory.

Cora Browning’s pedigree shined through offering a glimpse of her all-state mom Jill as she recorded a career high 21 points. The ink was barely dry on Alyssa Brown’s Maine Maritime Academy scholarship papers ahead of her 14 point night. Proffitt lived up to her billing as the freshman tallied 11 points. Megan Asher added 4 followed by three from Bailey Gillum and two each from Erica Brock and Keely Nelson.

“We shot the ball well. Defensively, we have a long way to go. Our half court defense was rough though we did fly around. So, we gotta hammer that home,” said CCHS Coach Brad Honeycutt. The 7th year head coach pointed out, “we saw some things out of some girls that we didn’t know they would provide, and that was encouraging.”

The Lady Cougars pressed and forced turnovers without fouling. CCHS’s first foul was not called until the last 90-seconds of the first half. “The effort was there tonight, and the attitudes were good; something to build off,” said Honeycutt.

For Honeycutt, it was his 195th game and 123rd victory. Coach ‘Cutt’s record reads:

13 & 16 2014-15

24 & 7 2015-16

27 & 9 2016-17

21 & 10 2017-18

28 & 5 2018-19

14 & 15 2019-20

1 & 0 2020-21
