JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – A special Veteran’s Day breakfast and bonfire was hosted by H.R. Douglas and his wife Lana on Wednesday morning.

Veteran’s David Young and H.R. Douglas salute as they respectfully retire two American Flags.

The event included a reading of the poem “In Flanders Fields,” as well as a flag folding ceremony explaining the significance of the 13 folds of the American flag. During the ceremony, there was also the “respectful retirement” of two American Flags which had become tattered. While the flags were retired on the fire, Veteran Ed Housley played taps on the trumpet and all Veterans present saluted.

Ed Housley and Vivian Loudy demonstrated the proper way to fold the American Flag and the meaning of all 13 folds at a Wednesday morning Veteran’s Breakfast hosted by H.R. and Lana Douglas.

Veterans also renewed their oaths during the event while Veteran David Young read them aloud. Both H.R. and his wife hold veterans and Veteran’s Day of utmost importance. A Purple Heart Army Veteran, H.R. said he wanted to give something back to his fellow Veterans and to “especially honor those who had made the greatest sacrifice.”

Veteran’s Melvin Boshears and H.R. Douglas share some laughs at the Veteran’s Day Breakfast and bonfire, which was hosted by Douglas and his wife Lana.

The names of Campbell County Veterans who died in Vietnam were read aloud to honor them. “Those are the real heroes and we want to honor their ultimate sacrifice,” Douglas said. Campbell County Vietnam Veterans who died in the war include:

  1. I would like to thank H.R. and Lana for a great patriotic gathering at their beautiful home. The time and expense for this event was monumental. They are patriots in the true sense of the word.
I would also like to thank them and their guests for the generous donations for the Campbell County and Jellico Honor Guard organizations.
I would also like to thank WLAF 1450 for covering this event.

  2. What a wonderful gathering as we paid tribute to all those who have served this great country. HR and Lana thank you for all you did. A Veterans day I will cherish forever.
