LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Last Friday, Campbell County Deputy Cody Douglas responded to a call about a man passed out in a vehicle in the Fincastle United Methodist Church parking lot.

When Douglas arrived, he woke a man later identified as Shawn Paul Goins to check on him. When Goins woke up, he seemed very nervous and fidgety in the vehicle, according to a report from the sheriff’s department.  Douglas requested he step out of the vehicle and noticed an odor of marijuana. Goins allegedly admitted he had smoked some marijuana a few hours prior.

When Douglas was searching him, he felt a bulge in his right coat pocket that Goins allegedly stated was a small zip bag along with some marijuana. A search of the zip bag revealed a small pill and a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, a schedule VI controlled substance, five yellow pills thought to be Gabapentin, a schedule V substance, a half broken pink pill wafer and what looked like a small suboxone strip and a silver pill container with a white crystal substance possibly a schedule II controlled substance in it.

Goins, 35, 712 Cross Valley Road, LaFollette is charged with possession schedule II-controlled substance, possession of schedule VI-controlled substance, possession of schedule III-controlled substance and possession of schedule V controlled substance. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 11/05/2020-6AM)
