LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – The Food City at Woodson Mall helped raise $8,200 during last year’s Race Against Hunger Food Drive.  The drive runs for the whole month of November each year and then the money is given to charities the next November, which is a time when many food banks begin to see a higher demand during the holiday.

The funds were awarded to several local charities on Monday including $4,000 to Open Arms Ministry, $2,500 to Food Life Services and $1,700 to Cedar Hill Baptist Church.

The current food drive will run until the end of the month. Donations can be made at the register.  Throughout the promotion, customers wishing to donate simply have to select the desired dollar amount, which will conveniently be added to the customer’s total. All proceeds raised will benefit hunger relief in Campbell County, according to Food City Store Manager Shain Arnold.

“It’s a great way to help those right here within our community,” Arnold said.

Food City is headquartered in Virginia, which is where the Race Against Hunger Food program began in 1992.  Last year the company helped raise $562,000 throughout its 134 locations.

“We would like to thank our loyal customers for helping make this promotion such a huge success. Their generosity will help feed thousands of our friends and neighbors in need throughout the region,” said Food City’s Vice President of Marketing Kevin Stafford.

The La Follette Food City is trying to break last year’s amount of $8,200 with a goal of raising $10,000 during this month’s promotion. Come out and partner with Food City in the Race Against Hunger this November.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 11/03/2020-6AM)
