JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – It was like being on a teeter-totter with King Kong in this so-called football rivalry between Campbell County and Clinton.  Thirty-one wins, 19 in-a-row at one time and eight shutouts are just a few of the Dragon highlights.  The Cougars scored 313 points through the first 30 meetings.

Enter Justin and Matt Price in 2011, and the rivalry is now actually a rivalry.  Campbell has scored 263 points in the nine games of the Price Era.  The Cougars have put on some weight, because, for the first time ever, the series weighs heavily in Campbell’s favor.  Price has posted six wins in the nine meetings with the Dragons, and game Number 10 kicks off tonight at 7:30 pm on Pat Kerr Field.

“Yea, we were able to win five in-a-row at one point, and each one of the nine meetings has been pretty close.  There for a while, we were scoring 41, and they’d score 40,” said 10th year head coach Justin Price.  He describes the rivalry as entertaining for the fans.  “It’s something our kids are looking forward to,” added Price.

Clinton comes into the region match-up winless on Senior Night for CCHS.  “You know you always gotta throw the record out when we’re playing Clinton.  If you look at their schedule, they’ve played some really tough opponents, and they’ve had to miss a couple of games.  Obviously their record is what it is, and they want that first win really bad.  Obviously that’s the challenge for our kids to understand that you’re gonna get their best effort,” said Price.  The coach realizes that Clinton will come in tonight  confident believing that it can win.

“We must match their intensity.  Match their physical-ness.  But at the same time, our kids wanna finish this season strong, and gettin’ this one tonight will be big for us,” stated Price.

Campbell is 3 & 5 while Clinton is yet to win.  The Dragons lead the series with 31 wins while Campbell has won eight times entering this 40th meeting.  The first meeting was a 49-18 home win for Clinton in 1975.  Last season, Clinton won on its home turf 12 to 7 in a game Price said, “It rained from the time we stepped off the bus until we made it back home.”  There’s an outside chance of showers in the Friday night forecast; nothing like during last year’s game.
