JACKSBORO, TN. (WLAF)- A former school nurse indicted for stealing students’ medications has asked for a public defender to represent her.

On Monday, Sherry Lancaster, Jellico, appeared in criminal court to face charges she stole medications from students.  During that hearing she asked the court to appoint an attorney to help her with her case.  She also pleaded not guilty.

Her legal issues began in December 2019, when Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Agents began looking into allegations of theft involving Lancaster. During the course of the investigation, agents developed information that Lancaster, who was employed as a school nurse with the Campbell County School System, used her position to steal prescription medications belonging to students, a release from the TBI said.
