LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) -La Follette Police Officer Mike Satkowski is not battling cancer alone.  He found out quickly last Friday just how much his brothers in blue and the community are behind him and his family. La Follette Chief of Police Bill Roehl said Satkowski is battling Squamous Cell Carcinoma, a rare cancer that is the uncontrollable abnormality of the squamous cells.

Fellow officers spent time Friday afternoon holding a benefit road block in Downtown La Follette for Mike Satkowski.

On Friday, during a downtown La Follette road drive, members of the community contributed $4,392 to help off set Satkowski’s medical expenses.  “This is huge and is greatly appreciated by our department; as well as, Officer Satkowski himself.  Many contributors also acknowledged their prayers for Mike.  Those are appreciated and are still needed.  As a Christian, I know that prayers work,” the chief said.

For those who missed the road block, there is still a way to contribute to Satkowski’s cause.  People can connect to his Go Fund me page for any future contributions.  Just connect HERE.

The husband and father will not be working for a while, according to the chief.  Satkowski is a five-year veteran of the La Follette Police Force.

“Thank you to all who participated in making this road drive a success,” said Roehl. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 09/15/2020-6AM)
